Elvis Blue Suede Shoes

Today, January 30, 1956, Elvis begins recording "Blue Suede Shoes." It is one of the first tunes RCA wants their new performer to record. Realizing that Carl Perkins, who wrote the song and recorded it on his old Sun records label, had given in to pressure from RCA to allow him to record it, Elvis requested that they hold back his version from release as a single. It was eventually released in September of '56.
